Plant Based Eating: 3 Reason For Your Health

There are many reasons people choose a plant-based lifestyle — environmental impact, living out personal beliefs, respecting animals, supporting a partner or friend, to look better physically, or, of course, to live a healthier lifestyle. Most people can understand wanting to be healthier, but what are the actual health benefits of plant-based eating? Here are three major ones:

  1. Reduce risk of heart disease: Studies have shown that eating fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes and fiber is linked to lowering the risk of heart disease, and because these are large parts of a plant-based diet, you may significantly reduce your risk factors of heart disease. Plant-based diets have also been shown to be more effective at lowering blood sugar, LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol levels.

  2. Improve gut health: Eating a diverse group of plants, legumes and fiber help to improve your gut bacteria, leading to a healthier gut biome overall. Check out this graphic of plant-based foods that boost good gut bacteria.

  3. Reduce risk of chronic disease: Type-2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and some cancers are all diseases that a plant-based diet can potentially help ward off.

While these are all excellent reasons to adopt a plant-based lifestyle, keep in mind that simply ditching animal products isn’t enough. Your diet must be thoughtfully planned out to ensure you’re still receiving important nutrients and vitamins to support your body.
